Ravi Naidoo is the founder and managing director of Interactive Africa, a Cape Town-based company that combines marketing, project management, logistic prowess and creative production to work on projects that promote South Africa.
A scientist by training, Ravi holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Physiology from the University of Cape Town (UCT). In 1994 he completed a Master in Business Administration degree at UCT, where he was nominated the Nedbank MBA Student of the Year.
Since 1994, Interactive Africa (with Ravi at the helm) has managed a variety of high-profile projects for clients that range from blue-chip companies to sport and tourism sector events. Ravi is arguably best known for establishing Design Indaba Conference. The Conference is a design platform that annually brings the world’s top designers, entrepreneurs, innovators and thought-leaders to Cape Town, where the belief in a better world through creativity is celebrated.
Since 1995, the Design Indaba has attracted the world’s brightest talent from across the creative fields. Some of the biggest names in graphic design, advertising, film, music, fashion, industrial design, architecture, urban upliftment, sustainable design, craft, visual art, new media, publishing, broadcasting and performance art have contributed, year after year, to the Design Indaba’s international reputation.
Design Indaba has committed the past 17 years to a vision that rests on the premise that creativity will fuel an economic revolution in South Africa. As such, Design Indaba is a celebration of design in a country iconic of the triumph of human spirit. Proof that even the most intractable problems can be neutralised by the will of people, resurgent South Africa is a beacon to the world. Design Indaba typifies this optimism and can-do spirit. Starting from the basis of how design can help solve the problems of an emerging country, it takes the view that through creativity, a better future can be designed.
